While scenario planning allows for a range of possible futures to emerge and to be explored, forecasting is essentially a linear process – that is, if things stay the same, then in X number of years we will be in Y situation. Many forecasting models can allow for adjustments in the variables – if X changes then this is what we can expect to happen to Y.
